Location Wellstar Health System – Metro Atlanta Region (Specific sites to be determined based on specialty and system need) Position Summary Wellstar Health System is seeking a Medical Director of Outpatient Services to provide clinical excellence and physician leadership across outpatient care settings. This role combines direct patient care (80%) with administrative and leadership responsibilities (20%), supporting Wellstar’s commitment to high-quality, accessible, and patient-centered outpatient services. The Medical Director will partner with operational, nursing, and administrative leaders to optimize clinical quality, provider engagement, access, and performance while maintaining an active clinical practice within their specialty. Clinical Responsibilities (80%) Provide direct patient care within assigned outpatient clinic(s) consistent with specialty training Maintain clinical productivity aligned with departmental and system expectations Deliver high-quality, evidence-based, and patient-centered care Support care continuity, access, and patient experience initiatives Model professionalism, teamwork, and compassionate care Participate in on-call coverage as applicable to specialty Administrative & Leadership Responsibilities (20%) Provide physician leadership for outpatient services within assigned scope Partner with operational and nursing leadership to support clinic performance, access, and patient flow Support quality improvement initiatives, clinical standardization, and evidence-based practice Promote patient safety, regulatory compliance, and risk mitigation Assist with provider onboarding, mentoring, and engagement Participate in strategic planning for outpatient services growth and optimization Serve as a clinical liaison between providers and system leadership Support implementation of system initiatives, policies, and best practices Qualifications Required MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school Board Certified (or Board Eligible) in an applicable specialty Eligible for medical licensure in the state of Georgia Minimum of 3–5 years of outpatient clinical experience post-training Demonstrated interest or experience in physician leadership Preferred Prior leadership experience (e.g., Medical Director, Section Chief, Clinic Lead) Experience working within a large health system or multispecialty group Knowledge of outpatient operations, quality metrics, and value-based care Strong communication, collaboration, and change management skills Key Competencies Clinical excellence and sound medical judgment Collaborative leadership style Ability to balance clinical productivity with administrative responsibilities Commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement Alignment with Wellstar Health System’s mission and values
